UDP failure
My car went down this weekend because of a bad pulley. I heard a squeal and decided to check everything out and the crank pulley had alot of play in it. You could move it about an 1/8 of an inch back and forth. Lucky I caught it before it came off going down the road. The pulleys are two part with a rubber pressed in. If the pulley comes off going down the road it can tear up alot of sh*t.
Just my .02 but if I were running a 12K racing motor the last thing on my mind would be running UDP's....Not to say I'd run a stock balancer either but the neglible gains of part designed for the shade tree bolt on enthusiast vs. someone running a hardcore race engine?
I'm not pointing the finger - that really sucks.

I'm alittle mad now, when I was doing research before I bought these I had only seen two threads of people that had problems with them failing and that was searching through years of past posts. Now all of a sudden people are coming out of the wood works with problems. I've had mine on for only about 2 months and they seem to be fine. But next time I put my car up for maintanence, I'll be sure to see if there is any play in the pulley.
Yea I just installed my pullies, and now it makes me want to reinstall the factory ones. I dont want to be stranded on the side of the road, or my wife! Man that would put a screaching hault to any future mods for the car if it happened with her behind the wheel!!!
the inner/outer hubs of the pulley were out of alignment by @ 1/2 inch. We had the pulley tested and it was enough out of balance that it could be blamed for the oil pump failure, which at 7k rpm on a road course doesn't give you much time to shut it down and save it.
As I said, this was a Steeda SFI rated pulley/balancer, which came of his previous motor w/ only 24k on it.
I'm hardly saying it's going to happen to everybody. There are a number of isolated incidents amongst who knows how many pullies out there. All I am saying is that 8hp probably isn't worth a 5-8k risk to replace a stock motor, let alone a race one.
