Default LT Header install???

I got my jba long tube headers in the other day so i decided to go to the local speed shop and see how much it would cost for me to get them installed. The guy told me 600-800 just for the install b/c they would have to take off the k-member or something like that. I was just wondering if that price was about normal for install? Anyone around South Carolinaknow any other good shops that install headers or would have a cheaper price to install them?

The K-member should not need to be removed. They will however, have to probably disconnect the steering rod and raise the engine slightly. I have some JBA LT's also and will be installing them myself in the spring.

If you do drop the subframe though, it is much much easier with lots of room...

Ive done the same install with jba's as well and I never did remove the k member and only had to jack up the passengers side of the motor once.. Its really not as hard as it seems just time intense and you will definately need an extra set of hands.. If ya wanted to drive over to texas i would do it for 350 but then again i dont think you wanna drive over here lol.. I dont think you wanna do it on your own either.. And hey newbreed if ya have any questions whenever you do your install i will be happy to answer them.. I did my whole exhaust at once and upgraded to the 3in pipe all the way through

Yes it can be donewithout, I'm just talking about providing more room, as it is quite tight.

For a speed shop I cant see it taking that long considering they have all the tools and everything because it only took me 8-10 hours with 4 jackstands and no air tools.. plus it was my first header install so I think that is a little over done

i installed the l/t jbas. they are a little bit of a pita but worth it. undo the steering shaft...not thesteering rack or the k-member. the jba instructions tell you to move the steering rack but it is not necessary. there are two 7mm? bolts under the dash that you can get to and unbolt the steering shaft. also while youre doing this make sure you buy o2 extensions and its a good time to change to prothane motor mounts!!!

had my kooks L/T installed in my car by realspeed racing in clearwater , Fl for $300. took about 5-6 hours. They did not have to remove cross members or raise the engine in anyway. had a quote as high as $800, from a different speed shop. They claimed that they did have to remove all that stuff mentioned.....so Dont know how Walt at realspeed was able to do it without it and others claim they couldnt....I have read and heard where some Header setups they have to and others do not....
