New GT owner after 21 years of trucks
Picked up a new GT Premium Coupe, all the options, Saturday night. This is my first car, and first standard trans, in 21 years. Traded a 2005 F-150 towards this Mustang and so far I'm loving it, although it's a major change after all those years of trucks.
I'll try to use the search feature as much as possible to avoid stupid newbie questions that have been answered 100 times (won't ask what the best exhaust is, etc).
Couple of quick newbie questions...
I feel like I'm lugging the engine when I up**** and keep the RPM's low, but I don't want to waste gas. I've been shifting up before I hit 3000 RPM. Should I wind it up more or is it OK to keep the RPM's really low?
How many miles are you guys with stock cars getting out of your brakes? How about tires?
I'll do some mods over time, but since this is a daily driver I want to keep the best fuel economy possible and not compromise any comforts or reliability. What mods can I do to increase power for relatively cheap without negative effects on reliability or daily drivability?
Thanks!
Here's a lousy cell phone pic...

RE: New GT owner after 21 years of trucks
Looks beautiful. I can tell you this much, I've had my stock brakes since the car was built. Going on 33500 miles now. They have what looks to be about 65% life left on them if not much more. And the tires are only now looking like they will need to be replaced in another 3,000 or so. And this is with me being a "spirited" driver. (Quick acceleration, and I stop pretty hard on occaision.)
As for the shifting, mine is an auto. But if I drive "nicely" then it consistently shifts below 2500rpm. I get 18 mpg city and 27 mpg highway as well. Hope that helps.

Congrats on the new wheels!
Cold Air intake and tune should not do much to your mileage and you will notice a good increase in power or you can do what I did, install an SC my mileage has not change a bit, tires just wear out faster.

Shifting at 3000rpm is just fine. If it is lugging slightly, try matching the revs a little better (either just a few more or just a few less) and that'll help.
