That is a GREAT LOOKING RIDE!!! those rim set it off. I had to buy FORD center caps so the GT owners here wouldnt copy mine set of rims. Of course all I get now is "are those factory?"

wheels are one of the biggest waste of money you can do to your car. LOL. the extra weight and shorter sideways are problems. visually the larger wheels make the car look shorter. i'd love to be able to find stamped steel wheels and dog dish hubcaps like i have on my 70 Cobra.

what kind of statement is that? having less sidewall flex is going to allow the car to handle better in the curves and not have as much body roll. A larger sidewall is better for dragracing, but tire technology has come a long way since using the bias type tires. Take a look at the new M/T drag radials. They are putting down similar 60 ft times and faster ETs because they are not a bias tire.

Funny, I just joined the forum today with my new 05 GT (black) and been debating on wheel size. My local rim shop was getting me into Boyd's Magnetos 18"x8 255/45 in front and 18"x9 295/45 in the rear. How do you like those SmoothieII's? Are the back 10" too big? Do they stick? What size tires are those? What i'm really asking is... are you happy with your choice?

Thanks Maui

I'd be nervous putting 295's on a 9" wheel. I think 285 is usually the widest recommended with for a 9" rim. I have 18x9's with 255's right now and I'm thinking about getting 275's for the rear - I'm not even sure I should go to 285's.

The 295 on the 10 inch looks good but I believe your right, 285 is the way to go. Of all the 18 inch rim pics i've seen a 40 or 45 profile looks perfect. Anything smaller i've heard will give you traction problems out of the hole...

Most tire manufacturers recommend 10" wheels for anything over 275s.

I have been doing considerable research on tires, and I have found 295/45-18 and 275/50-17 tires, but I don't recall seeing any 285/45-18 tires out there? I have also seen 285/35-18s, but they are too short (~1" shorter than stock).

So, which specific tire manufacturer makes 285/45-18s? I would love to know.
