Default Changing from Mobil 1 to Amsoil

Been using good 'ole Mobil 1 for many years, but based on a bunch of stuff I've read lately, I'm going to step up toAmsoil, the 25,000 mile stuff. I could never leave it in there that long, but I'll probably go from my present 5K milechanges to 10 K miles. I haven't decided whether to go with an Amsoil filter and leave it in for the 10K miles, or use a K&N or Motorcraft and change it @ 5K miles. Any advice from Amsoil users? I'm going with the 0W-20 Amsoil by the way.

10K seems like a long time. Oil is the life blood of your car.

You're not the first person I've heard talk about reading negative things about Mobil 1 lately. Care to share any of this info? Got links? Thanks.

well the short of it is, is that mobil 1 is not a true synthetic, it is not a "Group IV" base anymore it is Group III, group IV is full synthetic like Redline. Listen,Mobil 1 is still good oil, I guarentee you if you change it and the filter regularly you won't have a problem. Myself, I use redline because I think it is a great product and it is overkill for a street car, something I see as a plus.

I'm using Amsoil 0W-20 with the Amsoil filter andI do my oil and filter changes on the Stang at 10,000 miles (ok, so I got ansy and did the last one at 8,000 miles because I was about to take another long road trip). The oil is rated for 25,000 and the filter for 15,000 if I recall. I use Mobil 1 in my SUV's and I change the oil at 10,000 and the filter (IF convenient)at 5,000 miles. Since the one SUV had over 205,000 miles when I sold it and my present SUV has over 142,000 (neither one burns or uses oil), I feel confident with my oil change regime.

I run amsoil in my 4.6 explorer and my mustang. If you use the newest ea0 oil filters and the Amsoil 100% synthetic oil you can go 12/25,000 between oil changes. I sell Amsoil and I have never had a problem doing this nor heard of anyone having a problem.

I have to admit though, I do change the mustang oil at the end of the season before storage which is way eariler than the 12/25,000. For me its worth it. The explorer goes the full 12/25,000.

I really don't think Mobil 1 is bad, I have been running it for years and have been quite happy. It's just that after reading the test numbers for Amsoil, I think it's significantly better. The Mobil 1 Extended Performance is close to Amsoil and it is still a full synthetic, but the Amsoil is still best. For a buck and change more a quart, and to be able to stretch the changes to 10,000 miles without guilt, it's worth it to me. Sounds like Amsoils filter is top shelf too.

where do you get the amsoil at, it's pretty expensive, and hard to find.
