RE: 110 octane gas
Absolutely a waste unless you're tuned for it. At that octane, it might even be harmful over time.

RE: 110 octane gas
NO!
It is a LEADED gas. Bad for your 02 sensors and your car...period.
Now, mixing a gallon with a tank of gas probably wouldn't hurt you but unless you are running some nice boost and have the timing for it - it will do nothing for you what-so-ever.
Running it straight = by by cats and 02 sensors.

Yes - VP 100 octane is a great fuel. It's unleaded, not as oxygenated as others and really clean fuel.
But again, just dumping it into your car won't do anything and no novice should ever just 'add timing' to their tune. When you add timing, there are other things that need to be balanced out like injector slopes, mass air transfer functions, fuel trims, etc, etc.
But yes, a good tuner can give you a tune for the fuel that will be a noticeable difference in HP. Adding timing (safely) is the quickest and easiest way to make HP.

What about adding 100 unleaded at the track for some added assurance against detonaton? I was just thinking if I'm hot lapping the car, a few extra octane points would be good to prevent any detonation and/or prevent the car from pulling timing all on it's own.

That's a good idea but the timing is set in the tune and the car will pull timing based on IAT's which higher octane will not help. If the car is set to retard the timing at 128ยบ IAT - then it doesn't matter what octane is in there.
Could it hurt - no but I really don't think you'd be getting anything for your expensive gas. Better to just have a tune in your handheld with a tune for the good gas and then simply load the tune when you have the good gas in there and want to use it. The higher the octane, the more timing you can run and the more timing you run, the more HP your car will produce.
I really like the 100 octane cause it's a good gas. I would never go over 104 on a car with cats and full 02's.
The only time your idea would make perfect sense is if your timing is already boredline 'pushing it' on pump gas anyway. if you were pretty aggressive on your pump gas timing already, then certainly dropping some in there for added insurance is a wise idea. If you're in a safe zone timing wise though - I don't see the need for it.
