going to having cam phasers replaced
i had been having some weird noise(intermittent knock and another noise that i can't describe all while at idle). took it to the dealership and they said my car needs new cam phasers, which i figured. i asked if this is common for this year car and he said for the 5.4 liter trucks it is, but not on the 07 mustang(he stated this is the first they have seen, just my luck[&o]). i also asked do they make an improved model of cam phasers so i dont have this problem again and my answer was no. anyone else had this problem and has the problem reoccured? there gonna do the install next week on wed. but i have thurs and friday off also if they need the car longer. car only has 9,500 miles on it and its only 1year and2 months old and very babied on the street. i miss the old 5.0 liter engine.

Yeah, the cam phasers and the injectors are loud on the 4.6/5.4s. You can try the cam phasers for your knocking sound, but it may not do any good. Mine has a very distict knocking sound when gently revved or when taking off from a stop. Cam phasers did not help at all.
I drove two 07s at the dealer and they sounded just like mine, so I said enough, I'm not chasing this noise any more.
PS some dealers have stopped performing that tsb due to lack of effectiveness.

RE: going to having cam phasers replaced
Sounds like what my new 08Gt does at idle when cold. Passenger side cylinder head just above the valve cover, below the intake. Almost sounds like it's coming from the Fuel injection/rail. A light tapping that comes and goes and not really there after it warms up.
If it were a pushrod engine i would almost describe it as a sticking or dirty hydraulic lifter tap. In the case of OHC like our stangs I'd say it's a weak valve spring retaining assembly. Not a big deal unless it gets really loud or starts getting worse. One of those nuisance things.
