RE: Forged Rotating Kit - DIY?

It's nice to see a guy that has a set. I've been debating the same thing myself. I know when I was younger I did those type of things all the time. More out of necessity than want, no money ='s fix it yourself or walk. I'm with you Hammeron, I don't want an all out beast but if I could get 550 to 600 rwhp that would be sweet. My car's pushing 493 with the 3.2 pulley with 10lbs of boost and I'm thinking if I could drop down a couple more pulley sizes I could be in that 550 plus range. I think the forged assembly would give me the peace of mind to do that. I assume your going to do away with the whipple and install a Saleen now. heh, heh just kidding. What was the ball park figures for the rotating assembly? And the other ? is did something happen to your motor or you just wanted to give this a go? Anyway good luck, I think you can do it and there are all kinds of help out there.

i would check with them and see what they say. i believe it said the kit chandes the displacement to 301. whichg makes it a 5.0. i would not recomend you to just put it in unless you have the block honed. then yes, as long as it balanced you could put it in.

as for the heads, what i do is get some playdoe and put a little bit on top of the piston.then lay the head on the block and then turn the crank until it turns all the way around. then take the head off and you can see it on the playdoe if the clearances are good enough. and extra 30 min doing this can save a lot of fustration in the future

also if your going to run stock head, i mean totaly stock, i wouldnt take it over 550rwhp. but also when i say that, hp limits on the heads are like hp limits on the block. some hold and some dont. now when i speack of the heads im refering to the springs mostly

well i think it's time for us (the c o l l e c t i v e) to put
a parts list together for DIYer's, that just want
piece of mind

What was the ball park figures for the rotating assembly?

for that kit plus balancing, is around $1900....of couse you have other
expenses involved....

And the other ? is did something happen to your motor or you just wanted to give this a go?

i just want to give it a go, got nothing to lose and everything
to gain

Anyway good luck, I think you can do it and there are all kinds of help out there.

thanks, with enough encouragement it just might happen

Hammeron that is exactly what im going to do. i just want to put forged parts in so i can get 550 rwhp. im going to wait till the winter. if u do it let us know how it turns out. 1 thing i would check on is putting better head gaskets on, just to be on the safe side...

Hey Hammeron, do a Taco Bill type write up, with pics and daily updates, it would really be informative. It could save you some headaches if someone caught something that was wrong and with daily updates maybe some shortcuts could be documented as well. Again wish you all the luck.
