Called Whipple about my belt issue
Called Whipple today and told them what was going on. I spoke with Mr. Whipple himself about my issue and he explained what was happening. He doesn't think the factory tensioner has anything to do with it. He said they have a stang thats been running on 12psi for 3 years and have never had a problem with it. He told me the problem is how I set the belt up. The good news is he is sending me anew belt and tensioner pulley free of charge. The pulley is so I can set up the belt with no more issues. I took a closer look at my tensioner yesterday and it is bent, if you took a straight edge to it you could clearly see it. Mr. Whipple told me that this is normal and shouldn't be the problem. So i'm going to set the belt up exactly how he wants me to tomorrow and see if it works.

No problem. All that has to be done is to max the adjustable tensioner out. Then the sliding idler has to be moved down as far as possible without maxing it out. This is what went wrong with mine. The idler pulley maxed out of adjustment not allowing the belt to be tightened up by the idler. He told me since I couldn't tighten the belt with the idler when I released the tensioner it was too close to the stop. The belt stretches under high rpmwhich causesthe tensioner to chase the belt, when it hits the stop the belt isn't under load anymore causing it to walk. He told me since I have the gen II with the new 3.5" pulley the adjustable idler will max out on the slider. The whipple kit comes with a new 100mm idler pulley, but the directions tell you to use that pulley only if you are using a 3.125-3.375. So I used the stock pulley. This was probably the mistake I made. Anyways he said he's sending me a larger tensioner pulley to take up the slack of the belt. BTW he said there should be 3/4" space between the 2 sides of the belt where it goes up around the supercharger then back down around the sliding idler. I'm sorry if this is kinda hard to understand but its the best I know how to explain it without showing you.

Just got back from looking at my car and found damage on the hood where the belt hit it.I now havetwo 2" creases in the hood. Oh well guess you gotta take the good with the bad. Maybe a roush hood scoop will hide it.

Let us know how the belt install goes and any hang ups/hints you can give when putting it on. My whipple will be here in about 1 1/2 to 2 weeks, I'll make sure I use the 100 mm idler pulley with the 3.5" pulley.

I assume you are talking to Dustin and not Art?
Either way, he is very correct. These blowers hit fast and hard and it's crucial to have the belt 'just right'. Even a little too loose or too tight can cause problems (especially on the stock tensioner)
I would consider one of Thumprr (Peter) tensioners anyway.
My blower is very custom at it sits a mere 1/8" back from properly aligned and that was cuasing me pretty severe issues. Dustin has been fabbing me new pullies with an 1/8" shim built into them so it would be aligned perfectly.
Don't want to mess around with not having the belt perfect IMO...
You're in good hands and you'll be fine...
