what fuel pump will support 500hp?
ORIGINAL: one eyed *****
well i get the hickups already on the stock pump,i just cant believe no one has a more affordable solution, what happened to the day when you just got a $100 walbro?$700 is just ridiculous.i plan to only push about 450 on turbo. to me, $700 is a waste of money for a fuel pump that supports 1000hp when im only going for half that,im not saying i wont need any upgrades at all,i just dont want to throw my money around with out looking at better options.$700 is more than what i spent on the turbo(t70),am i making since?#39 cobra injectors will be here soon.
is there a sure all cure for the hickups on the stock pump?
$7k in apperance mods,lol,mmm....not even close, especially since i do all my own body and paint work.maybe $3.5-$4k.
im just looking fora better option than $700,there has to be something

There is a cure for the stock pump. Replace it.
What you're looking to do is like asking a paint/body shop to spend a ton of money on the paint job itself but go with the cheapest primer they can find. The paint is only as good as the primer and your system will only be as reliable as its weakest link.
Do it right or don't bother.
Quit trying to cut corners on the backbone of your car. Do it right spend the damn $700.00 to get the GT500 fuel system. Not trying to be a d*&k but just telling it how I see it.

cutting corners? trying to find a more afordable solution is all im trying to do. everyone acts like this is the ONLY option, trust me ,its not. no reason why a few things mentioned here wont work on a stock 450hp GT. im not going for 800hp,only 450,lots,and i mean lots of gts out there doing it on a stock pump, roush does not upgrade any of thier stage 3's as far as i know and thats not far from where i will be,to my knowledge i have not heard of a single one pooping out from a bad fuel pump.im only going to be running 39# injectors, cobras do that on one single stock pump all day long,i plan to double those and i should be good by far. im looking to make an upgrade over stock but im not spending that kind of money on a pump i dont need. thats like telling me i should get forged internals for 450hp also.gimmie a break, 450hp should not be too hard to make on a couple cobra pumps.i will have a wideband on the car at all times, even after the dyno tune,so if somethings not right i will find it.
i didnt come here to argue about it, i was looking for the next best thing over stock. figured some people on here would be all about finding an alternative to a $700 pump but i guess not.
done, case closed! if anyone has anything to contribute besides getting a gt500 pump,by all means,im listening.

Paul,
Justin over at VMP figured out a way to re-wire the stock fuel pump for a 10% drop in duty cycle:

This was with a 06 Mustang GT w/ an intercooled Whipple running @ 7.5psi (3.825" pulley).
Hope this helps,
Mike

Before the wiring upgrade FPDC (Fuel Pump Duty Cycle) was at 95% at 6500rpm. After the wiring upgrade it dropped to 85%, the fuel pump required almost one volt less at peak fuel flow (about 4.6lb/min). This car was making 420rwhp with a 11.5:1 A/F. I then tried a smaller 8.5psi pulley, still had plenty of fuel (about 91% DC). With the 3.325 (10.5psi) whipple pulley the stock pump is finally on the edge.

I've been running the FORD GT twin pumps spliced into the stock setup and it has caused me nothing but problems. I suggest going with GT500, I'm waiting to get mine this week.
The only part on my car I regret is not going the GT500 setup.

In all honesty, for 450'ish rwhp - you will be just fine on a wahlbro and BAP...

The GT500 pumps are nice, but you are absolutely right that they are overkill for 450.
I would not think twice about a wahlbro and a BAP with anything 450 and under rwhp IMO.
