Default RE: 05' Exhaust

ORIGINAL: discofan

I hear that the 4.10 gears are "kickin' around town", but suck big time on the highway due to the increased RPMs and gas isn't getting any cheaper...
discofan... there won't be much difference in the RPMs between 3.73s and 4.10s. Here are the calcs (for a 27" tire, in overdrive @ 80mph, w/auto trans):

(3.31 X 0.75) X 80mph / 27" / .002975 = 2,472 rpm [stock]
(3.73 X 0.75) X 80mph / 27" / .002975 = 2,786 rpm
(4.10 X 0.75) X 80mph / 27" / .002975 = 3,063 rpm

I also did a "test" to determine whether or not 3,000 rpm felt too high. I turned off the OD while cruising on the freeway, and when the tach was at ~2,800 rpm, I clicked on the cruise control for a minute or so. Then I did it at ~3,000rpm. The difference was negligible. To me, it didn't seem to be a problem at 3,000 rpm. But, I recommend you try it for yourself to see if 3.73s or 4.10s will work best for you.
