Check fuel Cap?

Check fuel Cap?
On my 2006 GT I keep getting a "Check fuel cap" warning every time I start the car. I'll check the fuel cap by opening it, the closing it until it clicks 2 or 3 times but the warning doesn't go away? Anyone else have this prob?

Tighten you fuel cap and the sign will be off after 2 or 3 days. I had that sign before.

Its not a DCT not check engine light...With the upgraded interior package (i'm guessing) it has some settings that allow you to change those background lights, look at your MPG, avg. speed ect...It is telling me here to check the fuel cap. I'm thinking its some dumb wire that I must have pinched when I lowered my car last weekend!

The Dealer is going to tell you that the problem was created
when the vehicle was lowered unless you had the dealership
do the lowering work and its under warranty.
There is a DTC thats set by the PCM. It does not cause
the Check Engine light to come on, but its set none the less.
It causes the Check Fuel Cap message to appear or the
Fuel Cap light to illuminate on a non message center cluster.
It comes from a loss of pressure in the EVAP system.

You might have pulled a wire from a EVAP pressure sensor.
A DTC would then be thrown by the PCM. The Message
Center thats part of the Insturment Cluster communicates
over the high speed can buss communications network
and gets a loss of pressure DTC from the PCM causing
the pesky 'check your fuel cap' message to appear.

It is possible you do have a bad gas cap. It does happen, the rubber gasket goes bad and wont hold pressure. Thats where I would start if doing it on my own.
Or have a tech in my shop hook it up to a smoke machine to check for an evap leak, but not everyone has that at their disposal, lol.
