Default Clutch Review Thread.

Everyone who has an after-market clutch on their S197, post here what clutch you have and how you like it. Post if you have an after-market flywheel, steel or aluminum, or any other transmission mods. Post what your horsepower and torque levels are. Then post how long you have had it.

We don't want to hear things like "I heard this clutch was good," or "I heard this combo sucks!" Only user testimonials!

Like this:

XXX twin disc,
stock flywheel,
stock t.o.b.,
soft clutch pedal feel,
smooth engagement,
451hp, 420ft/lbs.
4000miles.

1000 miles 8 passes on the track. Takes the heat from being on the track alot better than the stock clutch.

Spec Stage 2+
Spec steel flywheel
487 HP 486 TQ
stock Slave
1500 miles
hard as hell to push, does not disengage when shifting at high rpm. Squeals like a pig about half the time when engaging. Can't wait to get rid of it. Looking hard at the Mcleod RST. Already have a RAM Slave to go with it.

Spec 2+
Competition Lightweight Steel flywheel

498 rwhp 478 rwtq
Engagement point is at the floor. Makes shifting very long - forget powershifting. Did not always disengage at high rpm at the track. Lots of chatter. It is actually at spec right now, they are looking at it to see what is wrong with it. In the mean time I have a stock clutch in, comparison is night and day. Having the stock clutch back in made me realize how bad the spec 2+ was. Had both the spec 2+ in both before and after the blower was put on. It sucked for both. Other drivetrain mods: spydershaft, MGW sts, CHE k-member brace w/ torque limitors- these made no difference in the shifting. I always wondered why people would ask how you can miss a gear with the MGW sts, now with the stock clutch in, I realize why they said that. If I did a hard run, a lot of the time I would not be able to get it into 1st gear or reverse afterwards. I can't tell you how many times I was at a redlight and thought I was going to be screwed, but used every ounce of strength to get it into gear.

Spec 2+ FTL

I had the SpecII+ also and it was the biggest POS ever, I now have the RST and Mcleod billet steel flywheel and Mcleod TOB, but the TOB is leaking (2nd one), I am going back to stock TOB next week, if I were you I would send back the RAM TOB, a ton of people have also had issues with those leaking, and the RST is designed to work the stock TOB and so far I have not heard of anyone having issues using the stock TOB.
