Car falling off in higher gears?
Hey guys, Young mustang user ( Still learning )
I have compared my car to other cars with around the same ET's that i run, and my car through first and second or from a dig, my car blows them out and its not really close at all, but say we start in 3rd, from a roll, they pull on me, noticeably and even just with driving the car just seems to fall on its face once i hit 3rd. Any ideas?
Things to consider:
4.10 gears
Vortech blower ( non intercooled )
LT headers
*Exhaust system that does a U-turn for side exhaust.
20' carrol shelby wheels
car weighs almost 4000 pounds with me in it
Im thinking the exhaust might be one of the bigger problems, i dont think its just the gearing..
Help appruciated! Thanks guys.

I have the 3.55 and side exhaust and have not noticed any drop in the top end until 6200+ RPMs. I suspect I have lost little to no HP having side exhaust....sounds cool as hell too!

It's always best for your car's engine to be running at an rpm where the torque curve is at or near its peak at the start of a roll race. If it's running at an rpm that's below the torque peak, then it may be better to use the next lower gear.
I don't know at what rpm your S/C engine hits its peak torque, but for a N/A S197 GT it's approx. 4500 rpm.

Which is why i asked, thank you for your input.
yes my max torque in my car on the dyno was at 4900 rpm. i just figured it would pull alot harder then it does in the higher gear because its is similar to a turbo...

My brother said the gap between second and third in the tranny's in these cars is big.
I think it just may be the jump between gears, but the car pulls really hard through 1st and second and then nothing in third, I think it may just be because im not keeping it in the peak torque rpm's
thanks alot for the help

lol!
Drive my car. It pulls in every gear. It had a little more in the tank at 150+mph the other day... On a desolate private road

So you are non-intercooled running 11psi? hmmm, I don't know of many tuners that would roll with that. Post pics of your setup if you don't mind....
