Default Got code P0300.... Uggghhh

Had been so happy with the car running good since the cam swap and getting the error codes p0340 and 344 fixed. Well I was driving it the other night and the damn CEL came on and its code P0300 (random misfire detected) and the exhaust smells horrible (like rotten eggs) Am I fouling out the plugs too ?? Thanks guys

One of the causes is "Faulty camshaft position sensor." Dang...

Do you have any symptoms? Like hard to start, running weird or whatever?

Nope, starts right up. Seems to be running fine except for the exhaust smelling bad/funny. When I was fixing the other cels 340 & 344, the only other thing I didnt replace was the camshaft position sensors. Figures, theyre the cheapest and easiest things to replace. Maybe I should just go and replace those too... what the hell, its the only thing left that I didnt

rotton egg smell is usually the cats going bad. What brand of catted X did you get and what kind of warranty does it have? If they're the hi-flow variety they are probably already worn out.

On an OEM cat that rotten egg exhaust odor means you have a bad mixture or possibly a clogged converter. A clogged converter is a bad load of fuel or bad mixture, check your A/F ratio with a wide band O2 sensor upstream of the cat bricks. Sounds like you may have a tune issue or maybe a cam timing installation error.

HTH!

Thanks guys for the replies. My catted X is a Kooks brand. Its probably maybe only 2 years old. I wouldnt think it would go bad already but maybe. I really think its the tune. Im going to replace the camshaft position sensors while Im doing things. Im taking the car in this friday to have the A/F checked and to have it fine tuned. Anyone think the plugs are messed up ? Thanks again

Default Same issue here....FIXED!

same code. Mine wouldn’t start up right or sound right on the highway. Didn’t buck or stall though. Replaced the camshaft position sensors and cleared the code. Running strong now!

If you ever notice your high flows going bad Id replace them with high flow metallic cats. Ive been running them on my setup and never had a problem with and its been several years A bit more expensive but worth the cost as they are built for charged applications
