Default Texas Mile 2008

I just ran my stock 2006 GT 5spd at the Texas Mile. My best run was 139 mph. The car seemed to bog shifting to 5th gear at 6000 rpm. Should I have stayed in 4th??? Can I wind the engine past 6000 rpm without damage ???

I've seen 6250 rpm mentioned as a maximum engine speed somewhere, which only gets you to the same 139 mph. What I don't know is if that's a fuel cut strategy that calls an immediate halt to the fun or if it is some other limitation.

The available acceleration in the 135-ish mph region in 5th gear is only about 30% of what it is in 4th at the same speed, so you'd want to use 4th for as long as possible.

Keep in mind that at those speeds it takes several hundred feet to tack on just one more mph, so if you're looking for a 140.0+ slip it may be a tougher task than expected. I think that I'd work on aerodynamic tweaks first.

Where do they hold that? I'm in Houston, and would have liked to have done that.

139 is haulin! I wouldn't be ashamed of that number as it is... But I would have to agree with tuning your aerodynamics first. I'm sure the S197 is limited on speed just due to its lack of aero in the front. JMO

The Texas Mile is in Goliad about 30 miles south of Victoria. Check www.texasmile.com . I have stock rear gear-I think 3.55. The hood did not shake but I was holding on tight.

I pull my car to 6500 without issue.

as far as top speed, depends on rear gear and tire as far the top speed your able to pull.
