turning OD off won't have any effect on how your car goes through the lower gears. All it does it prevent the auto tranny from shifting into 5th gear.

Since the stock auto can go up into 5th at low speeds, like in the 30's when driving casually, locking it out can have an effect on your overall mpg even at city speeds.

Thanks, saved me the typing.
Really it will go into OD at 30? I cant imagine a 5th gear even at 40-45. Talk about lugging the engine.
Though I have zero experience with S197 autos.

it's not like with a 5 speed where if you cruised in 5th at 30mph where the car feels like it's floating along lol. 5th gear cruising in OD feels just like cruising in 3rd or 4th in a manual.

This is my 2nd auto sports car and the best auto anything I have ever driven.. must be the torque.

(-:

Even messing with the gears, downshifting is fun on occassion. Would be nice if it was a 6 speed auto with even tighter gears though.

The car feels way different to me when O/D is on and off when its On it is pretty smooth but if you gun it it takes longer to get going with O/D off it seems a bit more hmm crisp? Less lag in acceleration but if you going over 45 you can feel the difference because the car slows down faster when you gliding but also accelerates a bit faster when you give it a little bit to keep moving... with O/D on it is like floating basically. I turn it off until I hit the freeway normally then i turn it on kinda like choosing where you want your performance... from the 0-50 Range or the 50+ Range... MPH that is.

I never turn my OD off. It normally goes into OD at 45 mph.
I drive like the old man I am and get 24 mpg around town.
