I used to have mine on, but threw a belt and ripped the liner. It also rubbed a little on the plastic intake tube. Now i have a spot on the bottom of my hood where the intake tube is rubbing the paint off. So yes there is times that it will contact the liner.

No. I don't see the need and it looks better without it, well mine does because my hood wasn't painted at the factory. My factory hood wasn't fully painted under the liner.

i never took mine off.

it's obvious where the rubbing occurs
and when i saw it, i just cut out small
sections of the hood liner....

do what makes you happy

I didnt do anything to mine and so far so good after 8+k miles. Long live the Whipple!

Hey, BTW, Santa brought me a clutch for Christmas. He got a little confused on the brand and picked a Spec up from B'speed but I'm not complaining.

under the hoodliner it's not painted that well, like Moose said. spots where mine looks yellow, but not real ugly just not perfect, i might get it painted under there one day. i'm just too lazy to put it back on, besides i dont know where i put it now.

my hoodliner is still on, i originally took it off but couldnt stand the yellow under the hood where the liner was. I dont have any issues with rubbing.
