Exclamation Pinging at WOT

Hey Guys,

I have a 2008 GT with only a JLT II Intake, BBK Throttle body, and tuned with an SCT X3 on 87 octane tune. No timing or fuel adjustments, Just set to 87 octane, and entered my intake in the programmer.

I always run 91 or 93 octane in my car, but no matter what, at WOT the car has a slight ping.

SCT looked at my stock, and tuned files, and say that they are very conservative and there should be no reason for this to happen.

They said there may be an air leak or lack of fuel supply, and to check for that and get some fuel injector cleaner.

I am thinking it may be the BBK throttlebody....?

I don't really want to retard any timing, as it is not aggressive at all...

Does anybody have any suggestions?

Thanks!

It definitely should not ping using an 87 tune with 91/93 octane gas. Make sure all of the CAI's and TB's connections are tight. If they're ok, then maybe your local gas station filled the premium tank with some poor quality regular. Try different brands of gas, and stay away from the Mom & Pop stations. If no luck, then dump a can of Seafoam into the tank to get rid of any carbon build up(Doing that eliminated a pinging problem with mine). If still NG, then richen up the mixture a bit, and/or retard the timing a bit.

I'm always filling up at different places, but its always shell, mobile, or BP. 93 octane. I also filled up half way and put some sea foam in the tank and it still does it after I used that tank. I cannot find any leaks but its so strange that it would be doing this.

Im sorry for semi hijacking your thread, but I was wondering about how you know that its pings? I have never heard a car do it so I dont know what to look for. Do you hear it over the engine at WOT?

Sounds like something rattling in your engine!

i would try taking the bbk off and putting the stock tb back on temporarily and running it to see if it makes a difference. you know, process of elimination.

Maybe there is something wrong with an injector or something? Check your fuel pressure and make sure its not dropping. Clean the injectors too. My friends 04 does this too and we have never been able to figure it out.

I thought the car would automatically back off the timing if it starts getting pings?
