Mcloed RST Problems
#11
No he did not state specifically what it was but the initial thought is a tight input shaft or something binding.
I can say the clutch does disengage because I went out to a table top smooth parking lot and with the clutch in and reving the car hard it does not move an inch.
The symptoms are the same I have had basicaly since install.
When the car is off the shifter will fall into gear. When the car is running, and I still say warm but cant prove it, the shifter is very hard to get into first and impossible to get in reverse. The Mech says that the shifter should fall into gear while running like it does while off.
Since it shifts perfect while the car is off, I dont think it is the shifter since the geometry shouldnt be different on or off.
I did reuse the stock TOB and will be ordering a new one now, even if it isnt the problem it cant hurt. Other than that I really wont know the problem till its apart.
He said jamming it into gear should be avoided so I park places that dont require me to back up, and as I come to a stop, ie 1/2 mph I push it into first and it drops easily into gear. Then I have to sit through the light with the clutch to the floor. Good thing it has a fairly light peddle.
I would be interested in any further information on the installs of people with this clutch, how much shimming, measurements you took etc.
Brice, yeah I am sure Jay learned alot from your car so I hope it gets fixed quick and cheap.
Once in gear it is holding the power fine so that is a plus.
I am not saying that it is impossible to get a good clutch set up on these cars, just that you are taking a chance.
At the moment I dont know if it is an install prob, a clutch prob, or just a tight input shaft from Ford.
My gut says the input shaft from some other people I have talked to but I dont know.

yeah that is reasonable so let's
scratch the shifter idea.
i believe your problem is that the transmission
input shaft is spinning (at some rate), even when
the clutch pedal is pressed.
now why is this happening? possibilities are:
pilot bearing/input shaft interface.
pressure plate not disengaging fully.
slave cylinder not extending far enough.
hang in there, hopefully it will be good as
new when the shop is done with it.

Keep us posted MustangGT0405!

I would venture to say the issue will be something to do with the shimming.
This would take care of any issue concerning the the input shaft and pressure plate clearance.
A new TOB/slave isn't a bad idea. The RST is designed to work with the stock unit. The twin disc desgin is supposed to be simliar in wear/tear as the stock unit is.
Good luck.
Take some pictures if you can.

Well I am dropping it off there so pics might be hard, but i will make sure I get a specific explanation of what it is and post it here.
If it is as easy as shims that would be great.
