Nitrous on the S197
hey guys, i ran a NOS wet kit on my '90 5.0 yrs ago and just used about 8 bottles before fouling the plugs and selling the car so i have little NO2 experience. my mustang now is much nicer than the 5.0 was so i want to be extremely careful and was wondering, for you NO2 guys, how safe is a nitrous kit on the S197 and what's the best way to go and go about setting it up
thanks guys

zex makes a good kit for the 05+ mustangs
a 75shot is the highest you will want to go to remain "safe"
with that small of a shot you dont HAVE to use a wet kit, but you will have to get a tune, just to be on the safe side. (they will pull 2-3* timing with the tune)
bumping up your fuel pump, installing a colder plug, and running high octane gas will be a regular thing to keep nitrous safe.
good luck and feel free to ask any more questions.
im not to good with the 05+ mustangs, but i know a bit about nitrous.

like i said, im not to good with the 05+ mustangs.
you want a colder plug, 1 step would be fine (dont NEED it for a 75shot, but it is safer)
and i dont know at all what the new mustangs use for fuel pumps.
i have a 255lb high pressure welbro in my car.

Get the zex wet kit for the 05+ stang. look around for a used kit. Bottle heater is very important
Also you can use the 75 with no problems. After a 75 you want to get the autolite stage 1 colder plugs. I run the 125 shot with minus 4 degrees timing on my 89 brenspeed tune but with premium 91 gas.
Slap on some sticky tires and you have a nice beast.

you can actually run a 75 shot on the factory tune on the new ones. anything over 75 and you will need colder plugs and a tune from a well known tuner.

there is always a chance of blowing up a motor. like the above guys mentioned, 75 shot is safe on stock vehicle. i run 75 on mine with an aggressive tune and HT1 plugs. brenspeed told me that anything higher would require pulling out timing and going with a colder range plug.
use a window switch to ensure that you are not spraying at anything under 2700 RPM's or above about 5900RPM. this will reduce the chance of tearing up your engine tremendously.
upgrading the fuel pump is suggested for anything higher than a 125shot
the safeness of the car is really in your hands with nitrous. just make sure that if you have an aftermarket tune, it gets adjusted accordingly and dont go around red-lining your car with the nitrous
one issue with the wet kit i have always been warned about was missing a shift and the nitrous puddling up in your throttle body. from what i have been told, this is a bad situation. but i believe with the window switch, this can be avoided since your RPM's will shoot up if a shift is missed and pass your cut off limit and quit spraying
