Default Ported Heads

Who is running ported heads? What kind of gains in HP or track times have you seen?

Did you just C&C or are you running larger valves....

i am running ported heads on my wifes 05, i have never taken it to the track, but it has a lot of mods, i am not sure exactly what the increase. I mainly did it when we changed motors and was planning on revving higher, needed better valvesprings and went ahead with the ported heads

If I'm correct the phase limiters stop the cam from adjusting right? What's the benefit of this? I've always thought that the cam adjusting gave our engines a much broader power band, so I'm really confused why anyone would elimate these?

phase limiters do what the name implies. They do not prevent the cam timing from changing - they simply limit the band in which they can travel (+/-). There are two reasons for using them; one is they prevent the valves from contacting the pistons for large cams, and they keep the computer from trying to override what the larger cams are trying to accomplish.

My car has just received ported heads and bigger cams (I have my own thread on this which I'll update as soon as it's totally complete). The tuning should be complete Monday or Tuesday. So far it idles like a beast. I'm hoping to see somewhere around 370 rwhp, but it's getting warm here so who knows (keeping fingers crossed).

are they worth doing? Depends - to get a more agressive cam to work properly, you need to 'lock' them (either mechanically, or electronically) into a fixed position. This generally gets you the nice upper rpm power, but sacrifices the low end. If you're spending the kind of money needed for cams, it's worth the extra couple hundred to get the maximum performance envelope.

...but, I'll let you know for sure when I get my car back.
