Don,

When are you getting that chin spoiler? What color are you painting it? Which chin spoiler are you getting?
I ordered the CDC Classic yesterday, and I'm about 90% certain I will color-match it to the car (10% chance it will be gloss black).

don_w: How did you decide on the proper width?(255/275/285) I'm going with the 18"x9" Saleen rim. Profile I understand but width seems to be the one thing I see variations of. I want more rubber than rim.
The approximate total diameter is calculated by taking the wheel diameter (17, 18, 19, etc), and adding 2x the sidewall height to it. The sidewall height is the: width times profile divided by 100. For example, going back to my previous comparison:

235/55-17 = [2 * (235mm) * (0.55) / (25.4mm/in)] + 17" = 10.18" + 17" = 27.18" dia

275/35-19 = [2 * (275mm) * (0.35) / (25.4mm/in)] + 19" = 7.68" + 19" = 26.58" dia

As far as picking a tire width for a particular wheel width, I left that up to the tire manufacturers. They all list a recommended wheel size for their tires. If I recall correctly, Nitto recommend a 8.5" to 10" wheel for the 275/50's I bought. So, I went with a 9" wheel. The size calc for mine is:

275/50-17 = [2 * (275mm) * (0.50) / (25.4mm/in)] + 17" = 10.83" + 17" = 27.83" dia

Note, this is 0.65" taller than stock, and it is all increased sidewall height. Doesn't hurt that it is also 1.6" (40mm) wider too.

BTW, I set up a little table on an Excel spreadsheet to estimate the diameter of a wide variety of tire/wheel sizes. Made a nice, quick reference chart.

If you go with a 255 on an 18x9" rim, the rim is going to hit the curb first if you go all the way over while parallel parking. I think most 285's are too wide for a 9" rim. I would do 275. 40-series will be shorter than stock, 45 will be taller.

Thankyou for the comments, the real reason I asked is I have 285/50/20 (10")on my new Suburban and I scratched up my rims at a local drive-thru.[:@]
I should have went with a 295 or 305 to give me alittle more protection around curbs.
Sounds like 275's are the way to go with an 18x9 thanks.

Every once in a while, that engineering degree I have comes out. Sorry, I'll try not to let it happen again.

Hey, I was impressed. Don't think that I didn't copy the info and paste it to a note on my PCs desktop in the "car" folder.

99-04 have a different offset. Those will stick out further on your '05.
