you dont have to do anything really. but if you want any kind of performance gain out of it then you will want a good tune. otherwise its pretty frickin worthless in my opinion. now if you get an intake that requires a tune and you dont get a tune your check engine light will come on.

A stand-alone CAI that doesn't require a tune MIGHT net you 5 RWHP. Some people won't even feel it. And even some of the CAI's that claim to not require a tune will still throw a code.

A CAI & tune combo will net you anywhere from 15-25 or more RWHP providing you geta decent tune (Brenspeed and Bamachips are 2 of the better vendors that write the tunes and supply combos). The tune is the more important part of the combo as it provides 75%-80% of the bang.

Go to the Brenspeed and Bamachips websites. They have good tutorials on what's involved and their customer support folks can answer all your questions.

Yeah most intakes require a tune, and like stated above- the ones that don't throw codes, don't even give really any power. It is almost like pissing in the ocean and watching for the water level to rise... You just wont see the difference. I say go get an intake C&L or JLT and get an SCT tuner.

I tried running my JLT-II CAI without a tune to see what kind of difference the tune made. The car was drivable but it would hesitate and the check engine light came on. A good CAI will require a tune. If you can only afford one or the other get the tuner.

A good tune will also tighten up the throttle response.
