Default Supercharger - What else do I need?

Hey everybody,

I'm trying to see if I can get some information regarding a possible supercharger install. My dad is the actual owner of the car is an 05 GT, current mods:
  • Borla exhasut cat back
  • Offroad x-pipe
  • Injen CAI

My dad just told me that he found a good offer on a used Saleen Supercharger but he is not sure on if any big modifications would be required. The car would be used as a daily driver and would never see a track or something close to it (well maybe when I go back home on vacation) he just want the supercharger for fun.

Now I'm pretty sure that the stock fuel system may be able to work without the need of bigger injectors or a higher flow fuel pump. The engine internals would be able to handle maybe 7-8 psi (I'm just guessing that is what a stock Saleen runs at). I don't think that it would require a stand alone engine management but I know that it would require a re-tune which may not be a big issue.

Please correct me if I'm missing something or if I'm incorrect on the different points that I just mentioned.
Any additional info would be greatly appreciated

Thanks,

sounds like a good plan to me.

i would go to the brenspeed web site
and look at the base saleen kit, to get
an idea of what you should install at a
minimum, to support the system.

brenspeed would also be a great place to
order your custom tune from.

heres what brenspeed has on their stage 1 kit

Our turn key Saleen Stage 1 supercharger package is a complete kit that includes everything you need to support 470 flywheel horsepower. You get the high quality Saleen twin screw supercharger producing 5 psi of boost, a Steeda cold air intake, 39 lb. injectors, Vacuum line kit that improves fuel system efficiency, and a custom Brenspeed tuned SCT X3 programmer.

you might need some spark plugs too.

http://www.saleen.com/installation_manuals.html You can compare the install manual with what you will be getting and get an idea of what else may be needed.
That depends on how much boost he wants to push. Brenspeed doesn't include colder plugs on their Stage 1 & Stage 2 kits.

Thanks everybody,

Like I say before the car would be setup to run at minimal boost, hp is not really the goal with this project is just for fun, I was thinking the car would be running around 380-390hp which is why I’m not sure if going with bigger injectors like 39lbs would be required but it seems that is the case. All the kits that I have seen are setup to run over 420hp in which case I can understand the need for additional modifications. I still need to talk to him to see what they are really offering him, a complete setup or just the compressor.

Thanks for your help

here is a question

say he was going to push around 500HP would he need to get forged pistons, rods, ported heads with forged valves and springs? would the stock block hold up if these were all added to it? what else might he need?

true....might not need the colder plugs but why not run them?

Many have over 500 crank HP and I am running over that with my Whipple S/C on the stock block.
Forging is a great idea and if not at some point the motor can and will fail....just depends on many factors. Saleen forges motors that run 500+ RWHP.
You dont have to port or polish anything and the valves and springs on the stock motor are fine.....if you get CAMs then you may have to get new springs etc.

No one can say without forging at least that the motor can and will handle the HP for said period of time..... JMO but 450 RWHP is "safe" and some have still blown their motor with less.....

Here's how I'd go. 39lb injectors, Steeda intake with MAFIA or a Lighting MAF, HT0 plugs and a 3.6" pulley, mailorder tune from Brenspeed or JDM. This will give you 8lbs of boost with at least 400rwhp and you won't have to change the fuel system. Best bang for buck IMO if you're going to get the used SALEEN.
