Hood Covers (i.e., "Le Bra") on V-8?
I want to put a "bra" on my 2005 GT. (As of yet, Le Bra doesn't apparently offer full bra, only the hood cover custom for the '05 GT. That's OK, prefer hoodcover only, anyway.)
I like the contrasting look, and especially want to protect the front end from dings tossed up by other cars hitting road debris. Has worked well for me on previous cars.
Anyway, I have a friend who had a '00 GT (and has now upped to '05).
He tells me that using a bra on the Stang 'GT is a bad idea, due to the extra vibration of the V-8, over time the hem of the fabric actually pounds permanent marks into the hood, into the paint. Such was his experience with previous model.
Has any one else had similar experience? Is this a bad idea on the '05 or have "they" fixed/overcome the problem?
Is it worse than letting rocks hit the hood indiscriminately?
Thanx,
BD

I bought my 01 used and it has the tinted clear coat. It is obvious that the previous owner had a bra on it because there's wear marks where the bra vibrated against the paint. I haven't tried to rub it out but it looks like it may rub out...I wouldn't put one on a new car...

I was looking into a bra and decided to go the 3M clear bra route. It is being installed Wednesday. Check it out at xpel.com.

There is also an application of substance that is new (I'll get the name) that goes over your entire paint (like clear-coat) that is supposed to even protect agaist most light dings and rocks. Anyone tried it or know someone who has??

Well, the installer showed up at my house at 9:30am and didn't leave until almost 5pm. Man, you couldn't pay me enough to do his job. It truely is a art to install this stuff. DON'T ATTEMPT TO DO YOURSELF!!! lol...
It came out great in my opinion. The only indication it's installed is a faint line on the hood that you really have to look for to see. It has a layer of clear coat so you can wax/polish as you do your paint. I feel better knowing my baby is protected from the evil rock chips . Also, It has a 5 year paint protection warranty.
Great product!
