Hurst/Trans problem, please help...
It only happens when the trans is out of gear, there is a decent amount of play in the shifter when it's in gear.
Also, one thing worth noting is that when I bought this shifter the box came open during shipping and I lost the 2 poly bushings that come with the shifter and had to reuse the rubber ones from the factory shifter.
I have the original shifter, not the newer billet one.

I would start by putting a wrench on every bolt that the shifter has, to make sure that nothing has come loose. That may well solve your problem and it's free. Even if it does solve the problem, I would still invest in those bushings. The bushing replacement is about half of what makes the hurst worth having.
Does your shifter have any play in the handle if you lift up on it, something in the neighborhood of 1/8 to 1/4 of an inch when you pull up on it? If it does, then it's likely the bearing in the shifter base. I know Hurst claims to have sorted out all of the "bad bearing issues" with the early shifters they produced and revised the design to fix it, but I bought my shifter a full 2 years after they claimed to have fixed it and have this issue.
If you do have the up/down play, give hurst a call directly They will RMA the shifter for you and replace it, provided you have the original reciept. In my case, my dog was a puppy at the time and was in the "I eat anything made of paper" stage and after a year of dealing with it, I can not live with the rattle any longer... which is why I now have an MGW set to be delivered tommorrow.
