Default Hurst/Trans problem, please help...

Lately my Hurst shifter has been making a strange noise. When I go from side to side, I can hear and feel this metalic clicking noise coming from beneath the shifter. At first I thought the shaft was loose but I tightened that nice and good and it is still making the sound. I've been running the Hurst for about 2.5 years, and the problem seems to have started when I tried swapping the shaft for the one that uses the stock ball. I ran that for about 2 weeks then switched back the Hurst one, that's when I believe the noise started.

I'm starting to worry that perhaps it may be a bent shifter fork. I've grinded a few gears here and there, but I don't think any of them would be hard enough to bend a fork. I do not power shift.

Anyway, let me know what you think.

Thanks,

It just may be a coincidence that it happened at that time, do you have a habit of resting your hand on the shifter when driving? If so that may be your problem, you destroyed the bushing in the shifter base, that is how they absorb drivetrain vibration.

Yes, I do drive with my hand rested on the shifter.

Exactly where is this bushing? Is it actually inside the sealed base of the Hurst, or is it the bushing that is reused from the stock shifter that connects to the control arm on the transmission? An image point to it's location would be nice.

Don't you know you're supposed to keep your hand off your ball?

Default More info

Check under the car to make sure the connection to the transmission link is tight. If the shifter was fine before you changed and fine after you change, then the sound started as soon as you changed back, it is probably somthing is not tight. Also, Is there up and down play in the shifter? How much play is in the shifter side-to-side while in gear. Does it make the sound in gear or out of gear only?
