I shift as soon as my butt starts to feel numb...

oh wait... you meant gears... well, by the time my butt is numb, I have been through all the gears and am trying to find something on the radio to listen to....

Has anyone installed a shift light in a 2005?

I personally don't care for idiot lights. When they go on, it's usually too late.

I may be missing something here but if the max torque is around 4800 and the rev limiter hits at 5800, and I know it does, then it makes little sense to rev past 4800 -5000 rpm,

I don't claim to be an expert, but it seems to me that the point to getting the RPMs higher is that when the car shifts, you are not at the bottom of the HP/TQ curve on the next gear. Staying at higher RPMs keeps you closer the top of the HP/TQ curve and hence more power/acceleration.
