I used Manley pistons for our 3v engines. I had them coated by my builder.

You need to get your block squared away first before you buy pistons. Some new blocks still need to be bored 0.010", 0.020", or even 0.030" over to make everything uniform, so you may need overbored pistons. I did. Don't buy pistons until your machine shop or builder tells you which bore you need for your particular block.

What pistons did you use? I'm gathering parts to forge my motor and pretty sure I'm going with Mahle pistons made with 4032 alloy. Has anyone used a 4032 piston? What about 2618? What's the noise level on start up? Any piston slap?

Thanks,
Bruce
Mahle makes a good piston. Depending on the piston and rod combo you can get noise, should get slap unless you stroke the motor though. Sure you'll have some added noise but if your adding a built short block there are other things on your mind at start up.

JE Diamond pistons, stock compression/bore. I don't know much about size. My injectors are louder than anything else in themotor while it's running. No piston slap.

I wish knew more about the specific numbers for my pistons to help you. You can call JE and ask them. They created this piston with ST motorsports. He uses it in almost every one of the cars he builds short blocks for.

Good luck.
