Thanks guys. Looks like many engines are doing just fine on reasonable boost. That is encouraging. I hope to get years out of my stock engine.

Keep in mind your biggest enemy with these stock motors in not necessarily with boost... but with the tune. They obviously have there limits, but a good tune is always a wise investment when getting FI.

Canned tune is all I can do. No local tuners who have much experience.

My Brenspeed tune is very good. The shop said they couldn't improve it, other than to lean it out to squeeze more power (ie, make it 'unsafer' -- which they recommended I not do). Any FI is a risk of explosion, plain and simple. In every case I've heard of mishaps, they were due to either just simply too much power, or a bad or overly aggressive tune.

IMO nobody should even consider getting a blower until they are comfortable with the fact that the car might explode one day, and have some plan as to what they'd do in that case. If mine ever goes, I'll be pissed of course, but it'll get rebuilt into a beast and turbo'd. I wouldn't want to spend that money at all, but I could if I had to, and that was an important thing to know before I bought any FI.
