Exclamation 2005 mustang GT *compression test results* ~give your thoughts~

well i bought this car 3 months ago, and it had 68k on it and now it has 73k on it......

i figured i would do a compression check to make sure all is good..i had to track down a cornwell tool truck to get the 14mm female to 16mm male adapter for the triton 3v engine....9 bucks.....snap on wanted 100.....ahah....

well here are the results using a actron compression tester..(the kind that the hose slips in like a air compressor hose)

using the diagram right below, to match each cylinder to my results:

results in psi, turned key timed 5 seconds, did each cylinder 3 times...let me know what you think...

1. 216

2. 219

3. 220

4. 221

5. 217

6. 214

7. 216

8. 220

EDIT:also for those who are scared to remove spark plugs on the 3v, i have done it 4 times, no problem....just loosen a 1/8 of a turn, spray liquid wrench 2 quick sprays, let sit for 20 mins, work them out very slowly.....

then its very important to take a lint free rag and wipe down in the whole or spray carb cleaner, because the smooth portion of the plug is what gets stuck and it does this because of buildup....when you put your new plugs in drive around a few days and remove them to make sure there is no more buildup on the sides, if there is wipe and reinstall and check again a week or so later....if not your good....just remove them every 4k or so to clean and make sure all is good...

its much better than getting one stuck in there....

looks excellent to me, its very consistent across the board. IIRC most of the readings I got were always in the 170 and below range on the small blocks I played with as a teenager

I would be happy that the cylinders would keep the pressure. Called a cylinder leakdown test. The longer they hold, the better.

i left every cylinder for 10 seconds and no visible drop in pressure, i guess thats nice.....its almost like the dealer rebuilt the engine maybe.....

Consistent numbers throughout, no pressure drop...life could be worse!! I'd say that's excelllent.

I've been wanting to do this myself. I can't imagine I'd get those numbers exactly since I give it so much hell, but couldn't you just use an auto store cheap-o compression tester?

i bought the compression tester at advance auto, but you have to get a 16mm adapter to fit the thread of the 3v engine....you can get the compression tester adapter fitting at any cornwell tool truck for 9 dollars...
