Default Help With Modifications?

I have a 2009 GT Coupe MT. I've been busy figuring out the way I want to go on some modifications I'm ordering and have come up with this:

Magnaflow Tru-X X-Pipe

Borla Stinger S-Type Axle Backl

Stainless Steel Exhaust Hanger Kit

SCT LiveWire Mustang Tuner w/ Free Custom Tunes & Windshield Mount

BBK Twin 62mm Throttle Body

C&L Performance 3 Valve Intake Manifold

Shelby Strut Tower Brace

Steeda Mustang Underdrive Pulley System

C&L Racer Cold Air Intake

Comp Cams Stage II XFI VSR Camshafts

Comp Cams Valve Springs Beehive

Comp Cams Valve Spring Steel Retainers

Motive Performance Plus 3.90 Gears (8.8in)

Motive Bearing Kit (8.8in)

Ford Racing 8.8" Traction-LOK Rebuild Kit w/ Carbon Discs

Regarding cams, I was thinking 3.73 for something a little more reasonable on the street than 4.10; but then I saw the 3.90's and read the reviews. Looks like a good middle ground between mild and radical.

On the right track? better suggestions? Your advice is appreciated.

List looks pretty good. I would loose the BBK TB as too many problems and no performance gains. Replace the motive 3.90s with FRPP 4.10s. Gear whine is mainly gear install, but almost every one who has had motive's installed experience gear whine. 4.10s are reasonable on the street and hwy.

I totally agree with gman on everything he said. i had 3.90 they whined changed to 4.10 frpp and absolutely no whine. A bigger throttle body is only worth if you r running BIG boost. id loose the stainless hangers waste of money. the shelby strut tower brace is only a visual mod. i have a brace only because i like the way it looks when i open the hood. Hope this helps

There's nothing wrong with motive brand gears, it all depends on the install. I know this to be true first hand. I switched out my stock gears a couple years back with 3.90s. I pretty much just eyeballed the install without much measuring, and well i got some gear whine of course, but not too bad. Then a few months back i switched those out with some ford racing 4.30s, which are actually made by motive. This time i did alot of install research and bought all the measuring devices needed for a perfect install, and i got it all right this time, and i have no whine with this set. I personally think 3.90s are great gear if you're keeping the stock wheels and tire height. But if you plan on getting bigger wheels and tires, go with the 4.10s. Either way, just make sure they are installed correctly. BTW, thats a nice list you got there.

I'm running very close to what you're thinking about. I'd hold off on the C&L intake, at least until the FRPP intake comes out in March. Forget the BBK tb. Go with 4.10 or 4.30 gears. I commute 100 miles a day with 4.10's and they are hardly extreme. If anything they're too tame.

100 miles a day! I drive 70 and I thought that was bad.

Wow fellas. I commute about 5.5 or 6 miles a day round trip just going to work, and was thinking 4.10's would be too extreme for my needs. It's hard to judge what to get being a first time buyer without feeling the difference before installing. But gears are on my wish list, maybe in the spring...

OH, btw.... MilwaukieMustang, 3.73's 3.90's and 4.10's are rear end ring and pinion gear ratios, not cams.

Magnaflow Tru-X X-Pipe - little performance gain. may make the exhaust note raspy.

Borla Stinger S-Type Axle Backl - no performance gain. increases exhaust note. Stingers DO drone.

Stainless Steel Exhaust Hanger Kit - unneccesary

SCT LiveWire Mustang Tuner w/ Free Custom Tunes & Windshield Mount - not sure about the livewire but the major issue here is WHO'S custom tunes you get. Brenspeed, Bama and Tillman are 3 of the premier tuners. The SCT, AM and other canned tunes are inferior and produce less power.

BBK Twin 62mm Throttle Body - no gain on a non-aspirated or non-internally (heavily) modded S197 engine

C&L Performance 3 Valve Intake Manifold - check the dyno info from those that have these and NOT from the manufacturers. i think the jury is still out on this one.

Shelby Strut Tower Brace - nice start

Steeda Mustang Underdrive Pulley System - good for about 3-5 RWHP

C&L Racer Cold Air Intake - won't do squat w/o a good tune from those mentioned above

Comp Cams Stage II XFI VSR Camshafts - lots of choices in cams, depending on what you want to do with the car. the performance of these will be enhanced with a set of LT headers.

Comp Cams Valve Springs Beehive - maybe

Comp Cams Valve Spring Steel Retainers - maybe

Motive Performance Plus 3.90 Gears (8.8in) - depends on how you intend on driving the car. most favor the FRPP gears but the installer is the bigger concern.

Motive Bearing Kit (8.8in) - research this with the above

Ford Racing 8.8" Traction-LOK Rebuild Kit w/ Carbon Discs - maybe

My comments in red. You should add more suspension mods since you'll need to be able to hook the additional power. Understand that the CAI & tune combo (from the right tuner) will be your biggest bang if you're not going FI.

I put off the 4.10's for a long time thinking the same way. If there is one thing these cars need after the intake/tune it's gears.... The steeper the better. I wish I would've went 4.30's. 4.10's on the highway are at 2400 rpm at 70 mph. I still average 22-23 mpg out of a tank. The best part is you know that they are there unlike a bunch of the little mods that you won't notice.
