Is it easy to unlock and sct x3 or should I just shell out the cash for a new one. I keep seeing good deals on used ones but dont know what it takes to unlock these

You wouldn't be able to do it yourself and it is very expensive. I bought my xcal 2 and jlt intake used from a member here and got lucky that he knew how to unlock it. The used ones are a good deal, but keep in mind, you still will have to pay extra for the custom tunes. Once you add all the costs up, most of the times it is cheaper going with a brand new one loaded with 3 custom tunes. In my case I bought the xcal 2 and purchased one single 92 oct tune from brenspeed for $75. Go with a new one and avoid the headaches.

By the way, are you by any chance in Northern Illinois?

you can get a locked Xcal3 and send it off to SCT and they will unlock it and send it back to you for $150.. i just sold one that i had got from a guy because his car was repo'd and he didnt get to put the stock tune back on it so he sold it.. i bought it but i needed a tuner by next week and couldnt wait for them to get it sent back to me, so i just sold it for $100, and bought another one on here for $250. i figure the guy that bought it will have the same amount into the locked tuner i just sold him that i have into my unlocked one.. BUT he now has it clean xcal3.. this is what the sct rep sent me the other day after sending a email asking about unlocking a xcal3....

"You will need to setup a RMA in order to return the device. The cost is $150. You can either call us at 866-637-1672 or set it up through email."
