Default CA smog with aftermarket cats?

Has anyone here been able to pass CA smog check using an aftermarket cat set up. I just bought my first mustang and had no idea that buying replacement cats would be so expensive. They want like $2200 to make me a set and the dealer says that he can't even get them. Just wanting to know if anyone has been able to get around this problem. I can't bring myself to spend more on the cats than I did on the car.

First this in in the 2005-2011 section, so you would probably be better off in the appropriate section since the emissions systems are mandated to be warranted for something like 10 years in CA.

for the 98, these look like the only things you can legally get:

but you may want to visit a referee station where they may give you a waiver if the current cats are worn out.
