I've never had a tank average less than 21.5mpg. Course, I never drive ALL city, but I rarely drive on the interstate either. I average about 35mph...

I got 17-19 mpg (actual miles/gallons) in town with my 2007 when stock. Take off in 2nd. Shift to 3rd at 1375 rpm. Shift to 4th at 1500 rpm. Shift to 5th at 1625 rpm. Moderate throttle opening. Im in OD by 35 mph. Heavier throttle at low rpm is more efficient than lighter throttle at higher rpm for the same acceleration rate.

PS With my 2011 5.0 (3.55) I start in 2nd and am in 4th by 15 mph in normal driving. Despite beating on it some to help seat the rings, and just for the hell of it, so far its returning 21 mpg in town if the Info Center can be believed. Will know for sure when I get through the first tank.

If your 05 has high mileage, when was the last time the air filter, fuel filter, and spark plugs were changed? Also, are you using different gas(e10?), and are you spending more time than usual sitting at idle due to heavier traffic, construction, etc.?

I could see it being that low if your making short trips and waiting at stop lights a lot. If that is not the case, they the only other cause would be to be running richer than need be.

All of my driving is pretty much city as well (and I'm also a 504 boy). I usually don't get much better than 14-15 mpg myself.
