Question new guy from west L.A., needs help

hello everyone. so i have an '07 mustang gt. been try to fix up on my own but really i have no idea on what im doing. hahaha. so im here tryna network with people so i can get schooled. (i might need to be schooled just for this site, lol.) i started with i think are the basics for my car. 1) i put a random intake in my car, a no brand, does it really matter? and will i still get added hp? 2) i made the mistake of going str8 pipe, but i feel i lost power, so im going with magnaflow, but just axle back, is that ok? and 3) the biggest problem i have. wheels. i have tsw lagunas 20x10 in rear and 20x8.5 front, and im now learning about offsets, should i be worried? i basically ordered them from cruzin concepts a claimed mustang only site. and if i can sneak question 4) i lowered the car, 2" in back 1.6" in front, im slowly gonna add struts cuz i couldnt afford it at the time, would i get some comfort back? im bouncing so much. im lost and frustrated dude. pls help. i hope i dont have to start over. --LouieVill

1) If your intake didn't require a tune, chances are you aren't seeing much if any benefit over the stock airbox... I would recommend you look into getting a tune and tuner from Brenspeed or American Muscle if you don't have one. This will be your single best investment initially.
2) I can't help. I have only changed out the mufflers, all else is still stock.
3) If you ordered them CC, and informed them you have a mustang, I would think you should be fine. Are you experiencing any rubbing or problems?
4) I would think that you will have to save for the struts sooner than later... get some designed for a lowered car. BTW, how's your camber since lowered? Did you need an allignment/camber bolts? What about a panhard bar for your rear axle since lowering that much?

Don't get frustrated, and prioritize what you want to do next, including the tuner and struts. And have fun with it.

Don

1) i put a random intake in my car, a no brand, does it really matter? and will i still get added hp? A stand-alone, no tune required CAI is near useless and might add 3-5 RWHP, if that, and may still throw a code. A good CAI & custom tune combo will yield 20-25 RWHP

2) i made the mistake of going str8 pipe, but i feel i lost power, so im going with magnaflow, but just axle back, is that ok? You probably lost some low end torque with the straight pipes. However, changing to any other axleback will only chnage sound and will NOT add RWHP. The stock pipes flow very well

3) the biggest problem i have. wheels. i have tsw lagunas 20x10 in rear and 20x8.5 front, and im now learning about offsets, should i be worried? i basically ordered them from cruzin concepts a claimed mustang only site. The stock wheels are about 45-50 offset. Since you're lowered, the offset and backspacing come more into play, especially as you go wider. We need the specs on your lagunas.

4) i lowered the car, 2" in back 1.6" in front, im slowly gonna add struts cuz i couldnt afford it at the time, would i get some comfort back? im bouncing so much. im lost and frustrated dude. pls help. i hope i dont have to start over. There are a # of options depending on what you want to spend and are looking for. The S197 Handling section is the best place to get the best feedback on that. Personally, by going with those 20" wagon wheels, you're forced to go with low profile tires which negatively impact ride and handling quality.

Hope that helps.

+1 BigDinTexas is pretty much spot on. As a note of encouragement, once you start modding your car it's really an addiction. As for starting over, I'll bet most of us have garages full of stuff that we bought, installed and decided it wasn't just right or our taste for certain mods change over time. That's the beauty of modding these cars - you keep adding and changing stuff until it's just perfect for your personality and sense of style. Learn to sell on ebay or use the selling section of the forums and you can recoup a lot of your money. Good luck and happy modding!

Welcome iTerm...........ditto on the above comments. Get a real CAI and tune and you will notice newfound power. If you have an auto trans, even better.
