Default Anyone's GT using oil?

Mine seemed fine for awhile, but I checked it the other day and it was a quart low. It only has about 1000 miles on it since the last change. Dont seem right, but do these things use oil for a bit till they break in? It just turned 3000 miles.

fwiw, i have to add about 3/4s of a quart b/t 3k mile oil changes. but then, so does our honda odyssey minivan, so did the volvo xc90, so did my m3, etc. i don't see smoke. i don't see oil on the obvious places to look on the engine. i don't see oil on the floor when i back the car out of the garage. so far, i don't think it's something to worry about.

I would think it to be normal to "use" some oil during the break in period. I only drained around 4 quarts out of my S281 when I changed it after 500 miles (sure its hard to get EVERY drop out of it), but with the filter change it took 5.5 to get it full again.

Are you changing yourself or having a quick lube place do it? I've always had to add a little oil when I go to the quick lubes because they seem to be stuck on every V8 getting 5 quarts of oil, when in fact its closer to 6 with filter. Hell my F150 always took 6.5.

Heavy foot will use more oil due to extra fuel will wash the oil film from the oil control ring on the piston. Also a rich fuel mix will do the same. Both of these cause "blowby" wich will also increase crankcase presure. Modern motors evacuate very good so you won't see the signs like we used to in older carburated motors. Anyone remember the oil in the air-breather? These new motors don't really require a "break in" period like the older cars did. Modern CNC machining builds them to such tight specs that a wear in period is almost non existent anymore. All a "break in" did was to wear components to match each other. And don't even try to say "I havn't hot-rodded my mustang" cause then you don't have a reason to own one!
