Lol I made those vids. You can absolutely dd a boss 302. It rides well and you can absolutely find one at msrp on the lot if you look and don't mind going out of state or to another city. Sure you can fix a base gt up to compete with the boss. It depends on whT you want. I expect the boss to be capable of much more if you are a modder than the gt. Forged internals, ported heads and lots more out of the box. You can also lug them around town without any issues at all. Unless you count gawkers as an issue. If the price doesn't bother you the boss is great. Think of it as a gt with lots of mods already that has a full warranty on everything.

Also we need a boss 302 section here in the s197 area mods. Please the one down in the roush area is usess no one looks there.

Default Boss is a DD

IMO, Boss is a daily driver. I mean, how fast are you really going to go from stoplight to stoplight nowadays. I'm betting that the Boss at low RPM's below the Boss's powerband, underneath 3,000 RPMs will still beat the Prius in the next lane.

If you have the $'s to spring for a Boss Mustang and you really like it, then do it. You can DD this car.

The only Mustang model I wouldn't recommend as a DD is the Cobra Jet. But all the others, Shelby, Boss, were designed with the intention of DD use.

I exist in a largely urban enenvironment, with short highway trips around the city and 20-45 minute runs to different towns for work. For the highway trips, it's possible to open it up, but I've suffered this frustration before.

I have a '87 notch with 410 gears and a big cam 302. The car loves to rip to the redline, and I find it very frustrating to drive. It wants to stretch it's legs and scream. The car isn't happy puttering around at 1000-3000 rpm. At 3000 it's just waking up and chomping at the bit. It's a lot of fun to wind it out, but most people on the road are sleeping at the wheel, and my notch is just too much car for traffic.

So I reluctantly came to the conclusion that a Boss won't make for a good daily driver. I'm getting a GT, which has long runners and cammed for low RPM torque and lower operating speed, where it will spend most of it's daily driven life.
This is not an apples-to-apples comparison. Your heavily modded 87' notch doesn't have VVT to smooth idle at low RPMs and a severly overdriven 6th gear to keep the RPM's down on the highway. The Boss is night and day different in street mannerisms than your notch. Also, there is much more sound and vibration deadner in the 2012 to improve the overall comfort and ride compared to the 20+ year old notch.

It also doesn't sound like the OP cares about gas mileage that much...at least not enough between a Boss and regular GT. My guess is that he wants one car to DD and track. If this is the case, I would go with the Boss.

The more and more I look at the boss the more I want to know what I could possible get out of my car on a trade in, I still owe 13k and the car has 26k miles on it but it's in damn near perfect shape other than that but I know the stealerships are not high on aftermarket parts, stripes, and other things. Shane if you don't mind me asking after all the paper work was booked what did that car roll of the lot for?

Just going off bluebook trade in it would be around $22k. Minus $13k your about $9k above water. However, I haven't taken your mods into account. Suspension and exhaust parts do not add value...at least in the dealers' eyes. The blower is different. That would be considered a major upgrade. Assuming that kit and labor total up to a $7k investment, the dealer may value about half that. So add about $3.5k since your car is still relatively low mileage. You're going to get a ton of different answers on this and this is really a "best guess" from my days working at a dealership. Again, this varies from dealer to dealer.

Now by using a generic car payment calculator online and assuming you use the base MSRP for the Boss at $40,145 (this is optimistic since most dealers will apply markup for such a brand new performance model), assuming 3.99 (does not qualify for any special ford promos and that rate is for US Bank for a tier one credit score), + 6.5% sales tax in IL (?), $12,500 trade in figure your payment figures to be around $557/mo over 60 months.

I'm sitting here trying to do the math myself, I would put another 10k down and I can probably get a better rate than 4.9% because I'm in the military and my bank gave 3.9 on my current car so I don't think that would change. If I could get 25 on the trade I would end up 12 up plus 10 would put me at owing around 20k over 60 so I'm thinking about 350 a month, this is becoming very enticing if I can get around 25 for the car.

roughly $44k on that car, but i had to pay a bit over. You can find these cars on the lot at MSRP, but i haven't seen anyone get below that. I think military folks can get $750 off though on anything. A boss 302 depending on options at sticker is about $41,000 to $44,000 roughly. i love the car. i also took delivery of my new car today, 12 boss 302 #0333, it looks just like #0001 only the new one has the boss 302 floor mats.

also FTR, the blower wont add anything, at least i got nothing for it on my car. The Boss is as fast or faster stock than the m90 cars so you wont be giving up performance. If you can swing it, the Boss is an awesome machine.
