Default Automatic vs. manual

So here it is, the great tranny debate. Which do you all prefer? personally I love banging gears, however after a long day at work, that capitol D looks awfully inviting......

here here!
After driving my mustang a month and went to take my old auto car to sell I was SOOO bored.
My drive home is pretty easy at 12:30am through town, can do the first 90% with only 1 street change and 1 light so just find 4th/5th and cruise.
But if you have traffic jams and stop/go over and over I would suicide. :P
(I did this at a christmas lights in the park this year, apparently people cant go over 1 1/2 mph and have to stop every 10 feet)

Banging through the gears is fun, but with a 45 mile commute (one way) every day and stop and go traffic (and bad knees, just waiting out the replacement surgery), stick just won't make it for me now.

Besides, at the drag strip the automatic is much more consistent.

Very true, stuck in traffic and driving every 2 feet ever 10 minutes can suck with a manual. When I get back, my commute to work will be a 30 minute drive on the autobahn ;0) early morning (5 in the morning) with extremely minimum traffic ;0)

I put manual 5 speed, but I haven't driven one in a long time. We've got two 6 speeds and one "four on the floor".

It's the only way to go.

Ever since highschool (back in the early 70's) when I learned to operate a manual by driving my uncle's volkswagon bug I knew I was hooked. I won't even consider owning a car unless it has a manual. When I met my wife and we had to replace her automatic equipped car I insisted the next one have a manual. We bought a 04 Hyun Tiburon with a 6 speed. I took her out and taught her how to drive a stick. Sure, she was nervous at first but on the 4th day when she got home from work she told me "I never knew driving a car could be so much fun. I'll never drive an automatic again."

I got hooked on manuals a couple years ago driving around in my roommate's WRX. When it came time for me to buy my own car, I didn't even consider automatics. There are some times when I do see the appeal of them, but I drive stop n' go everyday on my way home from work and I have yet to stop liking it

I do not intend to be insulting in any way...

I have been driving manual transmissions for over 40 years, the last 23 from Tewksbury to Boston and back (50 miles of Interstate 93 traffic jams). Never once have I regretted having to clutch. When I drive my wife's car, I ALWAYS curse the automatic. I do not understand the fear of driving a manual in traffic.

I know the current trend is for "paddle shifters" (puke in mouth), and the percentage of clutch sales goes down every year, but to paraphrase, "you'll have to pry my clutch off my dead foot before I give it up!"

Definitely manual. Manual, in any car, makes it feel more like a drivers car. IMO it puts you more in control, and more in touch with your ride! So if you like cars, and enjoy driving, manual is your hot ticket!
