Default Whipple intake manifold, boost gauge plug?

Did anyone remove this 1/8 in plug in the intake runner? I was trying to do this today and ended up stripping the damn thing! I was actually relieved that it stripped, instead of breaking the cast aluminum intake.

I got a compression fitting to go in that hole, so i could eliminate the plastic T in my FPR vacuum line. I ended up running a brass t with barb fittings on two ends and screwed my compression fitting into that. There should be less chance of a boost leak.

ON a side note, shame on autometer for including such a cheap compression fitting for the back of their boost gauge. They use a brass ferrule that compresses at both ends and will not compress straight no matter what you do! $80 for the cobalt gauge I expect a DOT style compression fitting dammit!

I've never touched that plug, but the thought had crossed my mind of going the same route as you in order to eliminate the branch off of the fuel pressure sender line that I currently use to run my boost gauge. After hearing how easily it stripped out, I think I'll leave well enough alone.

It was partially my fault. I think it's 1/4 inch and I was using 3/16 at first, but it's still tight as hell. They used some kind of sealant/antiseize on it.

It's a permanent plug now, unless I pull the intake manifold in the future and drill it out.
