Default Headers or intake?

Hey MF'ers, Got an '05 premium edition GT with 56,xxx miles on it. The only "modifications" if you want to call it that, are the Pypes Muffler deletes I put on. My next decision is should I get a CAI, a no tune required one, or shorty headers? I have it set in my mind I don't want to hook it up to a tuner, just looking to put on some aftermarket mods. Any suggestions as to which I should do first?

i would go with a cold air intake and tune combo you will get the most out of this way and basically have a brand new feeling when you drive because of the tune

CAI & custom tune. You'll need a new tune IF you do LT headers anyway to turn off the rear O2 sensors and AM offers free tunes for life.

Shorty headers are a waste of money.. Go with longtubes, and you will actually get more power out of a set of longtubes and tune than you would a CAI and tune.. A lot more, but it's a lot more of a pain in the a$$ to install..

I'd go with intake/tune. You say you don't want to plug in a tuner, but if you buy all this stuff and don't do it, you're just wasting your money. You won't get nearly as much from the mods if you don't tune for them. You won't even be able to do a lot of modifications unless you have a tuner! It's really easy, the handheld tuner takes five minutes or less to complete the tune and are safe and reliable, so don't let that stop you.

Since I'm the only one who read your message and paid attention to the part of you saying you "don't want to tune it", given those 2 options I wouldn't do either. Waste of money with no return.

If you don't want to tune it for a good 20-25 RWHP, then perhaps some "pretty" mods. Because w/o a tune, other performance mods barely perform, if at all. Unless, of course, you want to do UDP's or an aluminum DS for about 3-5 RWHP each.

Really, why the decision to not tune? I did a poll about 8-10 months ago and about 75-80% of the forum was running an aftermarket tune.

I gotta ask...what's with all the shorty hate around here man???
From a sound standpoint definatley not a waste of money.
They will amplify your current sound nicely.
Many forum members (and you know who you are) persist in claiming
no performance gains with shorties, I as an owner would agree with the
finding here... http://www.mustangmonthly.com/techar...s/viewall.html

17lbs of torque along with better sound can be yours for a mere $325 if
you can install yourself. No further modification required, stock tune ready...
non-stock options available

A CAI with no tune is a "waste of money"...but really man, don't
fear the tune. It's where all the fun starts from a performance standpoint.
If your not gonna tune, I would agree with Nuke and just get appearance
upgrades from here on out.

I think the consensus for the hate of shorties is simply this.

If I'm going to go through the hassle of taking the stock manifolds off, I'm going to replace them with some MF longtubes!
