No, it is true, unless you are a "quick shift McGraw" the Auto shifts faster (with tune) than a human can with manual.
The Manual trans does have more HP at Rear wheel because the auto drive train eats up about 3% to 4% more HP than a manual trans.
In a drag race that we had a few weeks ago, two "05's" one stick, one auto, both had CAI and a SCT tune
the auto had the trans tuned to shift hard and barked in 2nd and 3rd, but the stick driver was slow to shift into 2nd and missed third
and lost the race by almost 3/4 second. the auto trans from third to fourth is at a 1:1 ratio.

You would only have to shift 1 time for a 0-60 time. Unless you don't know how to drive there is no way an automatic would have a faster 0-60 time. With everything being a percentage then the manual will hold HP better then an automatic so if you were to add a S/C then the manual will have a noticeable difference in HP. You don't need to be the best driver in the world just a good one then the manual would have the advantage.
