Also, bearing in mind that i do have the pulleys, would it be nessesary to get a higher output amp, say American muscle's PA high output 200 amp alternator? Or is sticking with the 130 amp good enough?

I don't see how it would cause the p0340 code. I don't like under drive pulleys, but getting a high amp alternator probably won't help. You'd need to know if the increased output is linear or not.

Hey guys, Happy New Year. I had found this alternator on ebay and wanted some opinions. I dont need anything special, just to have the car run at 100%. I am getting more of that " jolt" when i tap the gas pedal now and cel is on. Everything else on the car checks out. LMK and happy new yr again. http://www.ebay.com/itm/160AMP-HIGH-...81008902538%26

Is that alternator a good replacement? Or is AM's more expensive option the better choice?

You get what you pay for IMO, and generally if you buy cheap you tend to buy it more than once which ends up costing you the same or more as if you would've bought quality the first time.

Never heard of PowerMax and the fact they are telling you use a 4amp main fuse in line tells me they probably don't regulate their current very well or that the regulator is the weak point of their part. Not very comforting.

So, buy it once from AM and shell out the cash now, or buy it several times over a few years and pay the same or more.

The PA alternators are a known good replacement. Anything else is just a re-manufactured stock alternator with the same crappy diodes, until proven otherwise, imo!

Tried that route (diode replacement), but after my '06 died on the way to work (all instruments lights flashing on/off/on/off ) and luckily made it to a semi-safe place, but didn't want to leave it there over-night.

Wound up replacing the alternator and battery at the same time. O'Reilly's auto parts brand (only thing available in the local area) will have to do for now.

Six months later - no codes.. no issues.

Had the exact same problem, I to had waited and researched more options right up until the point where my car completely died on me going home from work one day. Interior lights turned off then headlights then car shut off. Thankfully I was able to make it into a parking lot. It really does just hit all at once. I was used to my previous vehicles giving little warning signs like the lights dimming when you rolled the windows up and stuff like that. This just shut off all at once. Save yourself a huge headache and just get a new alternator.
