About to lose my mind over this transmission noise
To make the sound more prominent, I popped the shifter bezel up before filming this. The sound can be heard idling and it also gets louder when I rev in neutral. At the :39 mark, you can hear it change tone (gets higher) as I shift from 2nd to 3rd. In 3rd, its bad. I brought the RPM's up to about 3.5 K and then coasted to let you hear the sound when I get off the gas. At the 1:05 mark, I started in 2nd and worked up to 4th gear where you again hear the sound coming from the shifter area as I get off the gas and coast.
Also, I can hear this sound prominently on cold start ups in the morning and it will get much quieter as the RPMs come down to the idle point. I also hear this sound if I rev the motor in neutral and not holding the clutch in.
My exhaust is fairly loud and, when I'm decelerating in one gear, it will holds a certain deep tone until it gets below a certain RPM and then begins "popping and gurgling" (no cats) . Tonight, I noticed that the noise I'm trying to identify is also very loud in the "decel phase" and then goes quite when the exhaust starts "popping and gurgling" This last part was very hard to put in writing and more video may be needed but this is at least a starting point.
Just take a moment, watch the video. Any ideas?

Thanks for the response, I'm about to stay up late looking into separator plate issues. From what I've read at a quick glance, the plate issues go away once the car is warm? Mine is still audible at operating temps. The sound is the most prominent in 2nd and in 4th, if that helps.

Sparta, while searching the TSB, I noticed you have ran into this issue before. Did you ever notice the sound changing in frequency as you switched gears and disappearing completely as you entered the next gear's gate?

I've had customers come in with many different noises at different times, it's not as cut and dry as just noise at idle. If you have access to a lift put it up in the air running while it's making the noise.

What was the factory powertrain warranty, 5yr/50k? I'm under 50K miles but its an 08 so I guess that is invalid now?
I did buy a third party extended warranty (didn't know any better) from the stealership for 5yr/100k miles. Now, if my factory warranty is invalid, I can try this one and see if it will pay for itself (doubtful)
