Default My plan. Looking for advice

Hello All. New to the forums here. I did intro myself in the new member area but I wanted to come here to ask for some advice on what I want to do.

I spent the past few weeks deciding it's time to buy a Mustang. I'm 43 and have some funds available to get one as a weekend/ once in awhile driver. I was actually heading down the road of trading my current vehicle(2011 Tacoma 4x4) on a new(er) GT convertible. After a few test drives, even though I friggin loved it I have to be reasonable and keep my truck and get a Stang for occasinal fun.

I had said in my new member thread that I don't want to spoil the thrill of driving a Mustang by driving it everyday. Plus I love my Tacoma and its hard to part with it.

So my plan is to try and find an 05-09 GT, preferably convertible, for 10k or less then mod it as I want over time. I realize that limits me to higher mileage cars and/or some no option cars. Ultimately I'd like to find a low option car with 50-75k miles and mod it.

Mods I figure I would do first and this is after limited searching and reading is a CAI and tuner and exhaust to boost the HP. After driving the 400hp newer ones I am sure the 300hp will feel like less. Haha

So I'm looking for any and all advice for executing this plan.

One of my big questions is doing the engine mods I stated to a car with 100k plus miles. Bad idea??

No, The 4.6L is a very stout motor so as long as its been well maintained you can mod it with that kind of mileage.

I also have a Toyota as my DD ('08 4Runner and a long time Toyota fan) and an '07 GT as my garage queen. Although I only have 39k miles on the GT, I see quite a few on the forum that have 150k and 200k on their Stangs. Although I doubt ANY Ford can compare with the longevity and reliability of a Toyota (my first 5 Toyotas; my current 4Runner is #6; total over 1,000,000 miles), I suspect the 4.6L can manage a good 150k or better. I'd say go for it. I'm 57 and when I'm behind the wheel of the Stang I'm a kid again (except I drive a LITTLE more responsible).

And I'm from PA originally.

Convertibles are over rated but it you must have one. Lots of deals out there on older stangs. Be patient and you will find a good one. Mods really wake up the 4.6 motor too.

There was a 2010 for 16k in Newtown, PA Black on Black, 89K on the odometer. Locally owned by older couple who used it to travel the US from late 09 til they traded it on a 13 Convert.

Car looked and sounded great. Looked at it for my boss who was on the fence about a hard top or vert.

Tis at Bill Marsh Ford in Newtown.

I'd beg to differ, 4.6L are tough. Come check out some NYC Crown Vic taxi's with over 500,000 miles that don't even burn a drop of oil.

Wanted to give an update. After a month or so of searching I bought an '05 GT deluxe convertible. Triple black, 56K miles. Had to get it PA inspected and it needed tie rod ends but other than that it's in pretty good shape. Needs the passenger door leather fixed and a few spots I may try to have PDR'ed and a few stone chips in the hood but it's an eight year old used car so I expect that stuff plus I enjoy fixing things.

Biggest thing right now though that I want to do....is drive it!!! Man what a blast!! I love it.

Here is the only pic I have so far. I plan on giving it a good detailing this weekend, wash, clay bar and waxing. After that I may take a few more shots. I did get some Wolffstein's convertible top cleaner and protectant that I put on it and it made the top nicer shade of black. I intend on putting a second coat on too.

Looks nice. When posting pics just copy the http:// through .jpg part and put it between [img] [/img].

Example: *removed the P from http so the text would show up instead of a bad image.

I have this UPR CAI/Tuner combo on my high mileage 3v and it's still running strong!
