Default Weird O2 sensor problem.

Hello all,

I've read for hours about O2 sensors and their problems but this one is a little beyond me:

I have an 06 GT with a BAMA performance 93 octane tune, an off-road X pipe, and a Magnaflow catback (and 3.73 gears and a Steeda CAI if it's relevant). I had slow response codes from the front O2 sensors that kept coming back every hour or two of driving, so I replaced them and all was well for almost 3000 miles and now I have the code back for one of them (I believe it's the one on the manifold). I don't have headers (I have stock manifolds).

I've spoken with mechanics and all, but nobody seems to understand what the issue is or why it seems to be 'eating' O2 sensors, so if anyone can help I'd REALLY appreciate it. Thanks!

Make sure the wires to the sensors themselves are not melting away, as that would cause an issue.

lostprophecy22,

This is a pretty weird case with a setup like yours. I don't see why they would be failing so early. I'm assuming the wiring harness has been looked over to make sure all the wires are insulated properly? The only thing I can think of is a poor electrical connection.

Maybe some other members will be able to share a similar experience!

Dealer should be able to check your harness.

Easy fix, one of the following:
- if you had long-tube headers or the stock front sensors have been moved down from the stock location, your tune needs to be adjusted to account for this.
- if you replaced the sensors with Bosch or an other non-Motorcraft brand, get rid of them and put in Motorcraft ones that are specific to your year model and engine. The stock front sensors are a little sensitive, and stockers/motorcrafts work the best.
- read the DTC code(s), contact Bama.

I had the slow response codes before. Called Brenspeed and they adjusted the tune so it allows more time for the sensors to heat up. Code never came back after.
