Default 2006 License Plate Bracket

I have a 2006 GT that I did not receive a bracket for the front license plate.

Does anyone know if the 2006 model had a bracket or not, or did the license plate just bolt to the bumper?

I can't find a factory bracket anywhere for a 2006.

Also is the 2006 and 2007 bumper the same? If so, I have been able to find a bracket for a 2007 and if it is the same bumper then could just order a 2007 bracket.

Thanks

They just screwed the license plate into the bumper. The bumpers are consistent from 05-09's depending on trim level (v6, gt, gt/cs, gt500).
I think you can buy a backing plate at any auto store, or if you don't want to drill your bumper you could either go with a craigs custom bracket: http://ccmustangbrackets.com/welcome...tang-brackets/
or a show n go bracket http://www.americanmuscle.com/flipdo...r-install.html

Aren't there easy to locate punch outs in the front bumper with the threaded holes behind them? Something makes me think there is since I had to install a front plate 2 years after I bought the Stang when I moved to hell... I mean, Illinois. Of course, that was over 4 years ago so damned if I can remember...

There are what I call "dents" which may be the knock-outs you speak of Nuke, at least on my 06 anyway. Luckily we don't have to run that nonsense down here.

Ford makes a front license plate holder for the 05-09 GT/CS. I'm not sure if the contour of the upper part of the GT bumper is the same as the GT/CS but the holes line up to the "dents" on the GT/CS. The part number is 7R3V-17A385-A. Here's pics:

I found a 7R3Z-17A385 A bumper bracket. The only difference from Redfire 281 was the "Z" after 7R3, his was a "V", typo?

Does anyone know for sure if this bracket will fit a stock 2006 GT mustang bumper correctly and has anyone actually tried this?

Same with my '06. Just two little "dents". You use a pointy self tapping type screw that drills it's way into the plastic bumper cover. Don't go too tight or you can strip out the plastic.

Thanks for looking closely at the part number. I took out the bracket and indeed it is a "V" so I looked at the Ford Part Number Decoder for later model cars and here's what I found:

7 = 2007
R3 = Mustang
V = Domestic Special Order Engineering Section ("Z" = Ford Customer Service Division)

So, apparently both part numbers are correct for the design spec and it's only the division supplying the part that changes. Aaaaah, only Ford! lol

I had the same problem when I bought my 05 GT. I wasn't about to drill into the bumper, so I bought this bracket, instead. It clamps up behind the bumper, and is rock-solid. It's a great option for a front plate.

I live in a state that has always had two plates, and likely will continue. I fully understand why as well, after 32 years as a LEO looking for wanted vehs. by tag # when all we had was maybe "a silver car with tag # ABC-123" and etc when they are approaching at 70 mph (try reading a tag from standstill car after car looking only at the rear) and needing to know that the car I was meeting was a resident owned veh. thus needing a inspection sticker. Anyway .... enough of that .....

I found that the GT all simply mounted the tag when needed by drilling those two dimpled dents (which are no prettier undrilled and showing) so I mounted ours there, but I also added a lower tag support.

Since that pic I have added a 1/8" thick backup plate for the front license plate. It's very secure and I expect it'll last. Certainly looks better than a "naked flat spot with two dimples" that didn't match the rest of the front bumper profile (ie: looking like something is missing).
