Default Real difference between V6 and GT axle back?

I recently replaced the Pypes axle back with GT500 axle back on my '12 GT. My buddy has an '11 V6 and wants my old axle back. They look the same, but AM shows different part numbers. Will GT axle back work on a V6? Thanks!

Dave

From what I've read on the forums the GT exhaust pipes are bigger then the v6. You would have to have an adapter put in to make up the difference in size.

If it's the same as the 2005-10 v6 (2.25") and 2005-10 GT (2.5"), the mufflers should be able do ratchet down that extra 1/4". It has worked on all "GT" labeled axle backs for the earlier S197's.

Sorry but that is not the case. For 2005-10 all Mustangs had 2.5"mid pipes and the axle backs were interchangeable. The down tube on the 4.0 were 2.25"with a step connection to the 2.5" over axle mid pipe.

Starting 2011 the 3.7 is 2.25" all the way, the 5.0 is 2.5" all the way, and the Shelby is 3"

I retract my previous statement. I've been out of my v6 so long I forgot I switched m pipes to GT pipes and that the Y on stock v6's went from 2.25" to 2.5" out. Thanks for catching that.

After a dual exhaust has been installed on an 06 V6, could I purchase the exhaust systems that say 05-09 GT instead of only the 05-09 V6 systems?

Yes, the system is the same size for 2005-10 on both models after you remove the "Y" pipe on the V6 and use the step connector for the down tube connection, so once you go dual you can use any muffler or overaxle pipe for the 2005-09 Mustang.

You can cut the single tip off and mount the dual tip. Most of those actually only use a single exit from the muffler. Might have to weld the new tips on.
