Default Notchy Speedometer movement

So the last few weeks I've noticed intermittent notchy movements of the speedometer up and down instead of smooth steady motion. It's become more and more problematic lately. It's still working for now but am worried about it quitting completely. Can someone give me some culprits of this issue? Is there a motor back there controlling it? How involved would this fix be?
2005 GT btw.

sounds like the stepper motor is going out. there is a motor for each dial so 6 in all for the GT. search "stepper motor" on here or google and youll see what I mean. its not hard to fix if you can halfway solder or there are places you can send your cluster to and they will fix for a fee. not the end of the world but if one is going then the others are probably gonna follow. id get 6 and install them and be done. good luck

Awesome, this will be something new for me. I'll look more into it and see if I can do or I'll just take it somewhere. Either way much cheaper than a Dealer "replacement'' cluster of 600+.

You can replace them for about $5 each I believe if you can do basic soldering.

+1. stepper motors starting to flake out on you. Eventually it'll quit working. Or worse, you'll be going faster than you think you are and get pulled over for it.
